She’s at it again…

Just some background on these guys.

The lil Yellow dude covered in flowers and colourful stickers is Sadface. He’s a pretty upbeat positive type of fellow whose monitor unfortunately broke 1 day after his warranty expired. Ever since then he’s never been able to display any emotion other than sadness.

The red guy next to him is E-mote,  His hot headed flatmate and best friend, I’ll have more to say on E-mote in the next post.

Finally, the mental woman scattering  joy is Daisy, Sadface & E-mote’s neighbour and local busy body. She used to be a professional leg model but nowadays she’s a perfect housewife and armchair psychiatrist. She simply refuses to believe that Sadface’s facial problem is a technical one and spends a good deal of her time keeping him away from water and tin openers incase he tries to commit suicide. She’s even been known to enter him into competitions to spend a day with a celebrity in an effort to keep his chin up. In this instance she’s gone with bright colours and flowers approach. It’s not working.

Cass – Updated design!

Phew! Ever since I first drew Cass she pissed me off. Everything I’ve drawn so far has been very straight forward, but then I decided it would be a good idea to create a main character who has to look like normal child on first glance and becomes weirder the more you look at her.

She’s the focus of a story which has slowly grown out of the ‘Dreamscapedia’ project. The idea with her is that you naturally assume she is the dreamer but as events unfold it becomes clear that she is merely a dream character created by a man who is on the verge of waking from a 7 year coma. She’s basically the memory of his 6 year old daughter Cassie combined with the knowledge that she would be 13 years old at the time of the dream, information which has possibly been unconsciously filtered from conversations around his hospital bed.

And that’s why her design has been the trickiest of all, it was important that she didn’t just look like a 9 year old, she needed to be a direct mix of child and gangly teenager without looking so weird you’d think I just can’t draw kids. Hopefully I’ve got the balance right though now, It’s the first time her design has satisfied me so that’s something at least!

Please note her footware by the way, It’s my favourite bit. And the best thing is that because she lives inside peoples dreams she can walk walk, run and jump without breaking her feet!

Old icky design! Bleh! (2009)

The old gang

Alright? I haven’t posted anything in ages cos I’ve been busy beavering away getting ready for New Designers.

Anyways recently I decided to update the designs of all of my characters, starting with these 4. (Top left, to Bottom right) Aposse, Everton, Cass and Batholomew, from the Dreamscapedia project.

I’ll upload them individually in a couple of days, perhaps comparing them to their old profile art, but for now just enjoy this quickly thrown together lil snap shot of the guys looking at each other and you.
